New Orleans Music for New Orleans Marching Bands

Brother Martin High School Marching Band in the Krewe of Alla, Carnival, 2009
Great segment on WWNO (FM 89.9) on "New Orleans Music for New Orleans Marching Bands," a pilot program sponsored by the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation and the Big Easy Music Awards Foundation. The purpose of the project is to encourage the marching bands of the city's schools to play Carnival tunes when they're on the parade routes.
The project started by transcribing the tunes Big Chief, Iko Iko, Hey Pocky Way, Mardi Gras Mambo, and Do Whatcha Wanna, for marching band. Four high schools will play these tunes this year: St. Augustine, Edna Karr, St. Mary's Academy, and Brother Martin. The band you hear in the segment is Brother Martin.
